5 Lessons from Launching 100 Startups

[Example] What we learned helping founders go from zero to one — and the patterns that separate winners from the rest.

Mercato Team

After working with over 100 early-stage founders, we’ve noticed clear patterns that separate successful launches from those that stall. Here are the five most important lessons.

1. Ship before you’re ready

[Example] The founders who succeed aren’t the ones with perfect products. They’re the ones who put something in front of customers within weeks, not months. Perfection is the enemy of progress.

2. Talk to users every single day

[Example] The best founders we know spend at least 30 minutes daily talking to users. Not surveys — real conversations. This feedback loop is irreplaceable.

3. Focus on one metric

[Example] Pick one number that matters and optimize everything around it. For most B2B startups, that’s usually weekly active users or revenue. Everything else is a distraction until you hit your first milestone.

4. Build in public

[Example] Transparency creates trust. Share your journey, your failures, and your wins. The community you build along the way becomes your most valuable asset.

5. Choose tools that scale with you

[Example] Don’t over-engineer your stack on day one, but don’t pick tools you’ll outgrow in three months either. Find the sweet spot — simple enough to start, powerful enough to scale.
